Design of in-flow actinometer microspheres for evaluation of ultra-violet (UV) disinfection efficiency for water treatment in small scale systems
Design of in-flow actinometer microspheres for evaluation of ultra-violet (UV) disinfection efficiency for water treatment in small scale systems
Prof. Mamane's team uniquely combines fundamental research with practical applicability in water-related issues. Roman's responsibilities involve establishing feedback loops in two key areas: Firstly, for continuous improvement in UV-LED reactor design, we need data on light distribution and irradiation doses. Achieving this requires numerical modeling and precise measurements. Roman plans to create a versatile platform using transparent polymer microspheres loaded with various sensitive molecules, enabling easy field measurements. This innovation aims to accelerate the enhancement and scalability of UV reactors with Light-emitting Diodes. Secondly, Roman will contribute to the SoLED installation team, focusing on an off-grid solar-powered UV disinfection system. While this setup offers a modern, energy-efficient alternative for water treatment, its success depends on changing traditional water practices. Roman will be involved in designing educational materials, establishing a support network for technicians, and refining the SoLED setup based on user feedback.
