במהלך חודש ינואר ביקר בישראל מנכ״ל IIASA, האנס יואכים (ג׳ון) שלנהובר, במסגרת המאמצים לקדם את הדיון בהמשך חברותה של ישראל ב-IIASA ולהעמיק את שיתוף הפעולה המדעי בין הצדדים. הביקור הדגיש את תפקידה ההולך וגובר של הדיפלומטיה המדעית בחיבור בין מחקר, מדיניות ושיתוף פעולה בינלאומי, במטרה לתמוך בקבלת החלטות מבוססת ראיות ובחזון בר־קיימא ארוך טווח.

Science, policy, and partnership: IIASA Director General visits Israel | January 2026
In January, IIASA Director General Hans Joachim (John) Schellnhuber visited Israel as part of an effort to deepen scientific cooperation and advance discussions on Israel’s continued membership in IIASA. The visit highlighted the growing role of science diplomacy in connecting research, policy, and international collaboration to support evidence-based decision-making and long-term sustainability.

A new study addresses the threat to global supply chains and Israel’s level of preparedness, against the backdrop of the war and climate change. The study was conducted by Galit Cohen, Prof. Vered Blass, and Dr. Amit Ashkenazy. Dr. Assaf Shmuel is a member of the Milo Lab at the Weizmann Institute and the Archimedes Center, and he applied for the fellowship through Bar-Ilan University.
