משבר האקלים וצמיחת האוכלוסייה העולמית מעמידים אתגרים בפני מדינות בתחום ניהול המשאבים הקריטיים לקיומו של משק משגשג. מדינות צריכות לזהות את המשאבים החשובים ביותר עבורן ולפתח אסטרטגיות לניהולם.
לשם כך מקדם המרכז מחקר, פיתוח ושיתופי פעולה למציאת דרכים חדשות לשימוש נבון וראוי במשאבים ולהפחתת צריכה עודפת שלהם, במיוחד במשק הישראלי.
פרופ' ורד בלאס הינה בעלת תואר שלישי (PhD) במדעי סביבה וניהול מאוניברסיטת קליפורניה בסנטה ברברה (UCSB). היא חברת סגל באוניברסיטת תל אביב החל מאוקטובר 2010 ומעורבת במחקר עם קבוצות שונות מאוניברסיטאות בארה"ב ובאירופה. תחום המחקר שלה נמצא בממשק של אקולוגיה תעשייתית ומדעי הניהול, ומתמקד בתהליך קבלת ההחלטות ובמדידה של הביצועים הכלכליים והסביבתיים של חברות, מוצרים, ומערכות תוך שימוש במגוון כלים ושיטות ניתוח.
The climate crisis and global population growth pose challenges for countries in managing resources critical to a thriving economy. Countries need to find the resources that are most important to them and develop strategies for managing them. To this end, the Center will promote research, development and collaborations to find new ways to use resources wisely and appropriately and reduce their excessive consumption, especially in the Israeli economy.
Prof. Blass came back to Israel in 2010 from UC Santa Barbara, where she has completed her PhD in Environmental Science and Management and MSc in Environmental Science and Management, specializing in Corporate Environmental Management. Her motivation and vision were to help advance here her areas of expertise, industrial ecology and corporate environmental management, fledgling fields in Israel as of yet. Prof. Blass is committed to integrating sustainability-oriented thinking into research and teaching in the field of business, through innovative classes and interdisciplinary teams of scholars, addressing both practical and academic challenges. Prof. Blass's research is positioned at the interface of industrial ecology and management sciences, focusing on decision making and the measurement of economic and environmental performance, using a diverse set of tools and analysis methods. her research agenda spans topics ranging from handling electronic waste and analyzing managerial decision-making processes relating to environmental impacts, switching to new business models that bring to decoupling of economic growth from environmental impacts, to assessing energy alternatives for transportation in Israel.
